This Year's Model Updates:

The Monte Carlo receives significant revisions for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the car's styling with new front-end styling and taillights. Inside, the Monte Carlo benefits from a redesigned instrument panel, improved audio systems, more comfortable seats and standard front side airbags. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Chevy car: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Spacious interior, low sticker price, powerful engine choices.
Cons:
  • Vague steering detracts from handling, off-the-line torque steer in the SS.

  • Finally! - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

With it being my sixth vehicle in the last eight years, I can not say enough about it. It is the only one I would actually consider leasing another one of. I am very impressed with its handling capability being a front drive V8, and it also adds practicality (although hardly practical) for an every day driver, with roomy interior for a coupe. The ride is phenomenally solid and quiet. The only thing youre really going to hear is the rumble of that 5.3L, 303 hp engine. Gas mileage is actually better than my 04 Grand Prix GTP (Supercharged V6), by 2.5 miles! The redesigned front end was definitely over due and, gives the 06 Monte Carlo a much more sophisticated yet aggressive appearance.

  • Why did they kill this car--again? - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I never thought I would enjoy (nay, love) driving a front drive V6, but holy crap! This car will put your backside in the seat and keep it there then stop on a dime and give you a nickel change. The handling is very stable and pretty responsive. Im 65 and fit extremely well in this car once the triple adjustable seat was set. The exterior is as aggressive as the performance; people tend to stare when I go by. When I took the car on the highway, 90 was as comfortable as 40. This is truly a sharp car. Makes me wonder why in the world GM would discontinue such a great automobile.

  • Really Pushing The Limit - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

First, I owned 2 Tbirds and the "interior" guy should shut it. Its a lot more like the old Tbirds than most people would think, just front wheel drive. I have thrown this car around corners, ran 15s in the quarter, and have squashed a lot of the competition. I use to be a Ford guy, and kinda still am at heart. I miss my Tbird very much, but this car is the closest thing to a big 2 door coupe that has is close to my old bird. I honestly think that if the car was a little lighter, it would be even faster, but for a stock car runnin a V-6 engine, I am incredibly empressed, I just wish it were rear wheel drive. It has performance, handling, great looks, and an awesome ride. I love it!

  • Nice car - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This car is the best car that Ive had from Chevrolet. I owned a Hummer and got rid of it because all of my kids drive now, so I dont need all the space. This car caught my eye right away and Ive have the same feeling everytime I look at it. The V8 rumble is never over exhilirating and the DOD works awesome. Off the line torque steer is a little bit overwhelming sometimes but it quickly gets back on track.

  • 06 Monte Carlo SS - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I have a bias for the shape of the roofline on 2006-2007 Monte Carlos. For me it has lots of interior room, something that cost above 40K in a Asian or Euro coupe. It is very fast when you stand on it. I have upset at least the following imports; Audi Q7 with V-8, BMW 650 convertble, Porsche boxster. Yes it is a front wheel drive and a amiable performer one click down from the Pontiac GTO and the last year of the Z28 Camaro. It will deliver 25 to 28 mpg on flat highways when driven at speed limit, I average about 23 mpg on highway due to spirited driving. The Goodyears hum at around 45-55 mph then get quiet. Plenty of trunk room, leather seats are firm and so is suspension. Like it a lot.

  • 06 Monte Carlo SS LS4 - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I was looking for a new car, test drove 08 Mustang GT, 10 Camaro SS & Challenger RT. The Monte SS by far was the most fun to drive, I really didnt expect anything from it. After the test drive I put money down to hold the car, I knew it was a winner. I am not saying this car would burn these others in a race but the acceleration on the SS made me instantly want it. When you step on the gas the HP goes right to the wheels, no delay. No one understands just how fast these LS4s are until they are behind the drivers seat. Even if your not in it for speed, it is a very comfortable car to drive in.The best part of my day is coming & going to work.

  • Theres Never Anything Wrong - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This car has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It is very fast, in fact, a little more power than the front drive system can keep a hold of. In the winter, I drive around the other fast cars stuck in the snow because of the front drive. Its a trade off that works. Big trunk, comfortable interior that is solid after 28,000 miles. Fuel mileage has been the only disappointment. Sticker suggested 18/28 I get 15.5/23.

  • Love it! - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I love the new interior they put in. Its not the same old generic GM interior. The ride is great and there is plenty of power when needed. I love just cruising around town now!

  • Love my Monte SS - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

A wonderful car for under $30,000. The V8 is powerful and quiet when driving. I love all the room in the backseat and in the trunk. This is the only sporty 2 door I found that was big enough for 2 children.

  • Clean Lines - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

One of the most solid cars I have driven. Could have done without the XM radio. CDs sound great, 6 disk is the ticket. Added chrome exhaust tips from dealer, which finishes the back end nicely.
